Venue operations jobs route through Oak View Group; food-and-beverage event work routes through Aramark.

CURRENT CALENDAR

What’s on at GRCC now?

The venue calendar confirms whether a public event is scheduled at the building. The event organizer—not GRCC—usually controls ticketing, badge pickup, public hours, session access, refunds and event-specific bag rules.

Today — Monday, August 17, 2026: the official public calendar does not list a public event today. It also shows no public event for Aug. 22–23. That does not prove the building is empty; private meetings and closed events may not appear publicly.

Why “upcoming events 2023” and old event pages are risky

Search engines can retain archived calendars, Ticketmaster pages and organizer posts long after the date has passed. If you found a 2023 result, treat it as historical. For a 2026 visit, match event name + current date + GRCC, then open the organizer’s own current page before traveling.

Ticketing and event rules belong to the organizer

GRCC’s attendee FAQ says advance ticket sales are handled by show management. That means the venue calendar is useful for confirming place and date, but the organizer is the better source for admission, registration, athlete/exhibitor check-in and event-day policy changes.

SPORTS EVENTS

Basketball at GRCC: venue capability vs today’s schedule

GRCC is used for indoor sports and can accommodate basketball-style event layouts, but the current public venue calendar reviewed August 17, 2026 does not list a basketball event. A search result for an old Richmond tournament is not proof that the same tournament is at GRCC today.

Looking for a tournament today?

Verify the tournament organizer, year, street address and facility name. Richmond-area sports events can use several different venues.

Team or athlete arrival

Use organizer instructions for athlete check-in, equipment, warm-up areas and doors. Public attendee entrances may differ from team access.

Old bracket or social post

Check the date before following it. Archived brackets and tournament pages can stay indexed after a venue changes.

ADDRESS + WAYFINDING

Address, event entrance and map

Venue address: 403 N. 3rd St., Richmond, VA 23219. But for public events, the current directions page tells visitors to enter at 5th and Marshall on either the Ballroom or Exhibit Hall Pavilion side, depending on event location.

Choose the entrance after you know your event location
Access pointWhen it may be usefulWhat to verify

3rd & Marshall — Exhibit Hall PavilionListed in the attendee FAQ as a possible/main GPS-side entranceWhether the door is open for your event.
GRCC parking deck connectionUseful after parking in the attached deckThe deck connects to the building via Level 3; follow event signage inside.

Better sequence: event name → pavilion/hall → entrance → parking or transit. Starting with only the street address can put you on the wrong side of a large convention complex.

Map to the venue

Use the map for neighborhood orientation. Event-specific entrance instructions take priority.

PARKING DECK + BACKUPS

Parking deck: current $10 rate, clearance and re-entry

The attached GRCC Parking Deck sits at 3rd and Marshall and connects directly to the convention center via the third level. For GPS, use 351 N. Third St., Richmond, VA 23219.

Why Google may still show a cheaper rate

Search-result caches and third-party event pages can lag behind the venue. During this audit, older indexed sources still surfaced $8 and $6 prices, while the live official Directions & Parking page opened today shows $10. Treat the live official page as the default unless your organizer gives you an event-specific validation or complimentary-parking instruction.

Can an event override the normal rate?

Yes. Event organizers can sometimes arrange validation or complimentary parking. For example, a current COVITS event page gives attendees a specific complimentary-parking process in the GRCC garage. That is an event benefit, not a permanent venue-wide rule. Check your organizer before paying.

The official directions page lists options at 4th/Broad, 7th/Marshall, 100 and 107 E. Marshall, North 5th, 4th/Jackson, 90 E. Grace and 115 N. Foushee. Verify rate and closing time at the exact facility.

Street-parking caution: the official page mentions non-metered areas in parts of 1st, 2nd, Clay, Marshall and Jackson Ward, but curb restrictions can change block by block. Read posted signs instead of treating “free street parking” as guaranteed.

HOTEL DECISION

Which hotel location is easiest?

Hotel search results are useful for room inventory, but event visitors should prioritize walking route, covered access, parking, early sessions and group-block rules before chasing a small rate difference.

Venue-listed hotel options
HotelLocation relationshipBest forCheck before booking
Richmond Marriott Downtown500 E. Broad St.; connected via skywalkSpeakers, exhibitors, early sessions, reduced outdoor walkingEvent block, parking, skywalk access hours.

Most friction-free hotel choice: if your priority is minimizing weather exposure and morning navigation, the Richmond Marriott’s skywalk connection is the strongest official venue-listed advantage.

TRANSIT + AIRPORT

Getting to GRCC without using the parking deck

Downtown Richmond gives visitors several car-free options. The most useful local transit detail is the GRTC Pulse, whose Convention Center stations sit on Broad Street near the venue.

Transit is fare-free, but schedules still matter. GRTC says all buses are zero fare and its 2026 FY2027 budget continues Open Access. Check current service alerts before relying on a tight event arrival window.

FLOOR PLANS + CAPACITY

Floor plans, room inventory and capacity

Do not use one headline “capacity” number for every GRCC event. Capacity changes with room, seating style, stage, A/V, registration, food service, aisles and fire-code layout. The current floor-plan page is the best starting point for inventory; a legacy official capacity PDF is useful only as a dated setup reference.

Why the 2025 handbook says 32 rooms while the live page says 36

The August 2025 Event Handbook describes 32 meeting rooms, while the current live floor-plan page opened in this audit says 36 individual meeting rooms. For current room inventory, use the live page and confirm your exact room set with an Event Manager. The handbook remains valuable for policies and deadlines.

Legacy capacity PDF: useful examples, not a 2026 guarantee

The official facility-specifications PDF is marked Last Revised May 5, 2004. Its room numbers can help you understand relative scale, but current layouts must be confirmed. Selected page-2 examples:

ENTRY + ON-SITE RULES

Security screening, tickets, water, food and cash

GRCC can inspect bags and personal items, and some events may use OPEN GATE systems, walk-through metal detectors or hand-held detectors. Event credentials can also be required for specific spaces.

Tickets

Advance ticket sales are handled by show management. Use the organizer for ticket purchase, refund, transfer and badge questions.

Water

The attendee FAQ allows one clear personal water bottle per person if it is empty on entry; water filters are inside.

Outside food

Generally not allowed without Aramark approval. The attendee FAQ notes a medical-condition exception.

Food payment

Aramark concessions and bars are cashless; they accept credit, debit and supported tap-to-pay. Do not assume every unrelated transaction in the building is cashless.

ATMs

The venue says ATMs are located in several places and marked on floor plans.

Bikes

Bike racks are available around GRCC, but bikes and road scooters are not permitted inside.

Items most visitors should leave at home

The current safety page prohibits outside food/beverage, weapons and hazardous materials, illegal substances, disruptive noise-makers, many recreational items, coolers, folding chairs, pointed umbrellas, unauthorized drones, unauthorized promotional material and large signs/flags. Your event may add stricter rules.

Need security help now? GRCC lists the Security Team at 804-783-7341.

ACCESSIBILITY + AMENITIES

Accessible entrances, elevators, wheelchairs, nursing and Wi-Fi

GRCC says the facility is ADA compliant. Open doors can vary by event, so accessibility planning should still start with your event location.

EXHIBITORS + FREIGHT

Loading docks, shipping, carts, power and rigging

Exhibitors should not treat public attendee parking instructions as freight instructions. GRCC has separate loading areas and the show manager/Event Manager controls final move-in access.

Deadlines hidden in the 2025 Event Handbook

Rigging

The handbook recommends submitting rigging plans roughly 45–30 days before load-in. Encore handles rigging; meeting rooms are not general rigging locations.

Utilities & internet

Advance-rate orders generally need payment at least 14 days before first move-in; specialized power should be addressed about 30 days out.

Standard booth power

Without 24-hour service, handbook guidance says standard booth power is typically on one hour before show opening and off about 30 minutes after close.

Non-union facility: the current planner toolkit says GRCC is not a union facility and exhibitors may handle their own setup/equipment within show rules. That does not remove dock, electrical, rigging, safety or decorator requirements.

EMPLOYMENT

Jobs: OVG venue roles vs Aramark event roles

There are two different employment paths, and this matters when you search “Greater Richmond Convention Center jobs.”

Venue operations jobs

GRCC is managed and operated for the Greater Richmond Convention Center Authority by Oak View Group (OVG). The venue careers page sends applicants to OVG for current full-time and part-time openings.

Food & beverage jobs

Aramark is the sole food-and-beverage provider. GRCC lists event-based hourly roles such as kitchen workers, banquet staff, cooks, concession workers and bartenders.

Hours can differ

The venue explicitly notes that Aramark event-based hourly positions do not guarantee minimum weekly hours. Read the current posting before applying.

Do not rely on an old job title copied into a visitor guide. Current vacancies change. This page explains who hires; the official careers links near the bottom should be used for the actual open-role list.

PLANNER WORKFLOW

Planner deadlines from the current toolkit and 2025 handbook

The live planner toolkit says a Sales Manager handles booking and contract steps; after the event is contracted, an Event Manager becomes the planning liaison. The August 2025 Event Handbook adds a more detailed timeline.

Practical planning timeline derived from the official handbook
WhenWhat to work onWhy it matters
6–12 months outReview handbook/pricing, previous event documents, preliminary exhibit and registration floor plans, outside suppliers.Do this before selling booth locations or locking operational assumptions.
3–6 months outSite visit/planning meeting, exhibitor service kit/list, preliminary food & beverage planning.Creates time to solve layout and vendor issues.
About 2 months outPreliminary event orders, security/first-aid needs, transportation, digital signage; start final technical coordination.Major service needs should not become last-week requests.
45–30 days outRigging plans and technical review where applicable.Structural/rigging approval can require lead time.
About 21 days outTypical second deposit/COI/final event orders, final floor plans, schedule and security plan; emergency personnel requests should also be made at least 21 days in advance. This is a major operational deadline window.
14 days outUtilities/internet advance-rate ordering and payment.Late orders can lose advance pricing and complicate move-in.
10 days before move-inAncillary charges due under handbook guidance.Avoid payment-related service delays.
3–7 days outOnly small last-minute changes.Do not redesign the event at this stage.

First aid and floor-load details worth planning early

First-aid rooms

The 2025 handbook describes two first-aid rooms. Event staffing can include EMTs arranged through the Event Manager.

500+ attendance

The handbook says events with 500 or more attendees may be required to have EMT coverage; staffing has a four-hour minimum. Confirm the requirement for your event.

Floor loads

The handbook lists 350 lb/sq ft for exhibit halls and 125 lb/sq ft for ballroom floors. Heavy vehicles/displays still need event-specific approval.

What is exclusive and what can you bring yourself?

Current planner-toolkit relationships
ServiceVenue rule
Food & beverageAramark is the exclusive provider; outside food requires approval and is rarely permitted.
A/VYou may bring your own A/V provider.
RiggingEncore must handle rigging.
UtilitiesOrder through GRCC’s utility/service process.
Wayfinding signsGRCC provides complimentary wayfinding on pedestal digital signs; custom sponsor/schedule graphics require coordination.

PDF freshness rule: the handbook itself says policies may be modified. Use it to prepare, then confirm final deadlines, pricing and operational orders with your assigned Event Manager.

OWNERSHIP + SUSTAINABILITY

Ownership, management and Virginia Green

Owner

The Greater Richmond Convention Center Authority (GRCCA) is a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia created by Richmond and Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico counties/localities to own, finance, improve and operate the convention-center asset.

Operator

The current careers page says Oak View Group (OVG) manages and operates GRCC for the Authority.

Regional funding

GRCCA says debt-service and other operating/capital obligations are funded through an 8% transient lodging tax on hotel rentals in the four participating localities.

Virginia Green certification and reported 2024 results

GRCC says it is Virginia Green certified. The venue’s sustainability page reports its 2024 results separately from current-year claims: 5,550 lb of single-stream recycling, 5,270 lb of baled cardboard diverted, 2,900 lb of wooden pallets repurposed, 45 lb of light-bulb glass recycled, and a reported 59% recycling rate.

Date label matters: those quantities are 2024 reported results, not a claim about 2026 totals. The certification itself is presented as current on GRCC’s sustainability/planner pages.

TROUBLESHOOTING

FAQ

Visitor FAQs

What is the Greater Richmond Convention Center address?

The venue address is 403 N. 3rd St., Richmond, VA 23219. For the attached GRCC Parking Deck, use 351 N. Third St., Richmond, VA 23219.

What is the current GRCC parking deck rate?

The live official Directions & Parking page opened August 17, 2026 lists $10 per entry and $26 overnight. Older cached results can still show $8 or $6, so use the live venue page or an event-specific organizer instruction.

Where is the GRCC parking deck?

The attached deck is at 3rd and Marshall Streets. Its GPS address is 351 N. Third St., Richmond, VA 23219, and it connects directly to the convention center via the third level.

Can I leave the parking deck and re-enter on the same ticket?

How tall can my vehicle be in the GRCC garage?

The current parking page lists 7 feet 8 inches on Level 2 and 6 feet 7 inches on levels above. Vehicles longer than 19 feet are not permitted.

Are there public events at GRCC today or this weekend?

As of August 17, 2026, the public GRCC calendar does not list an event today or for August 22–23. Private meetings may not appear publicly, and the calendar should be checked again before travel.

What are the next public GRCC events?

The next events currently shown are Lucky Leaf Expo on August 28–29, 2026 and Collect-A-Con on August 29–30, 2026. Use the organizer for tickets and final entry details.

Is there a basketball event at GRCC right now?

No basketball event is listed on the current public venue calendar reviewed August 17, 2026. GRCC can host indoor sports, so verify any tournament through its current organizer rather than an archived search result.

Which entrance should I use?

GRCC says 5th and Marshall entrances on the Ballroom and Exhibit Hall Pavilion sides are the primary event access points. The correct side depends on your event location, and other doors may open for specific events.

What hotel is directly connected to GRCC?

The Richmond Marriott Downtown at 500 E. Broad St. is connected to GRCC via a skywalk. Hilton Richmond Downtown is also very close.

How large is GRCC?

The current floor-plan page describes more than 700,000 square feet of adaptable space, about 178,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space, a 30,550-square-foot Grand Ballroom, 36 individual meeting rooms and a 258-seat Lecture Hall.

Why do some official sources say 32 meeting rooms and others 36?

The August 2025 Event Handbook says 32 meeting rooms, while the current live floor-plan page says 36 individual rooms. Use the live page for current inventory and confirm the exact room set with your Event Manager.

Can I use the old capacity PDF to plan a 2026 event?

Use it only as a legacy reference. The official facility-specifications PDF is marked Last Revised May 5, 2004, so current capacity, layout and fire-code planning should be confirmed with GRCC.

Does GRCC have free Wi-Fi?

Yes. Basic complimentary Wi-Fi is available in public spaces on the GRCC_PUBLIC_FREE network and requires a valid email address. Dedicated event bandwidth is a separate service.

Does GRCC have wheelchairs?

Yes. Wheelchairs are first-come, first-served, may not leave the building, and visitors may be asked to leave an ID at Security while using one.

Can I bring food or water?

Outside food and drink are generally not allowed without Aramark approval, with a medical-condition exception noted by GRCC. One clear personal water bottle is allowed if it is empty on entry and filled inside.

Is the whole convention center cashless?

Do not describe the entire building that way. GRCC states that Aramark concessions and bar outlets are cashless and accept credit, debit and supported tap-to-pay methods.

How do I apply for jobs at GRCC?

Oak View Group manages and operates GRCC for the Authority and handles venue-operation opportunities. Aramark separately hires event-based food-and-beverage workers.

Who owns GRCC?

The Greater Richmond Convention Center Authority owns the venue. GRCCA is a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia created by Richmond and Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico localities. Oak View Group currently manages and operates the facility for GRCCA.

Is GRTC transit free to ride?

Yes. GRTC currently operates Open Access service with no fare required, including Pulse. The FY2027 budget continues fare-free transit for another fiscal year.

What should I do if I lose something at GRCC?

Check show management first while the event is active. The 2025 handbook says found items are held by Security Base for a limited period; for current security help, call 804-783-7341.

OPTIONAL TOOL

Build your first-step arrival plan
