  • Checkout flexibility: Ask about luggage storage if your final session finishes after checkout.
  • Total cost: Include taxes, deposits, parking and local transportation rather than comparing only nightly room prices.

Getting to the KC Convention Center

From Kansas City International Airport (MCI)

Most out-of-town visitors arrive through Kansas City International Airport. Taxi, rideshare, rental cars and RideKC transit are available, although public transportation requires planning for the final connection into the convention district.

  1. After landing, follow airport signs to the correct transportation pickup area.
  2. For a direct trip, enter 301 W 13th Street, Kansas City, MO 64105 as the general destination.
  3. If traveling by public bus, check RideKC’s current airport service and downtown transfer points.
  4. For a hotel arrival, navigate to your hotel first and confirm its convention-center walkway.

Free KC Streetcar

The KC Streetcar is free to ride and serves the downtown corridor along Main Street, extending beyond the original downtown route. It can be useful when staying near a stop or visiting restaurants and attractions outside the convention district.

How to Use the Streetcar
  1. Open the official KC Streetcar website.
  2. Find the stop closest to your hotel or parking location.
  3. Check live arrivals and service alerts.
  4. Board without paying a fare.
  5. For convention access, choose the stop nearest your assigned venue and walk the remaining blocks.

Unlike older descriptions of a short downtown-only route, the expanded Streetcar now reaches additional areas of the city. Consult current route information rather than relying on older printed maps.

Accessibility, Security and Visitor Facilities

The convention complex provides accessible facilities, with services varying by venue and event. Guests should identify the correct accessible entrance and drop-off location before traveling.

Accessible Parking

Designated spaces are available at selected nearby garages and surface lots. Availability, rates and pedestrian routes vary, so confirm the facility before arrival.

Wheelchair Assistance

The venue lists complimentary wheelchairs on a first-come basis through Event Services on Level 1. A driver’s license is required for checkout.

Assistive Listening

Listening devices are offered for many Music Hall performances. Ask event staff or the box office about the equipment for your specific show.

Venue Assistance

For accessible routes, performance seating or other requirements, contact the convention center at 816-513-5000 before arriving.

Can You Bring Bags, Food and Personal Items?

Venue-wide prohibited-item rules include weapons, unauthorized drones, outside alcohol, illegal substances, many outside food and beverage items, and pets other than permitted service animals. Larger coolers and certain recreational equipment are also restricted.

However, individual organizers may impose stricter policies for backpacks, clear bags, cameras, props and reentry. Review your event’s ticket information rather than assuming every convention has the same security requirements.

Official policy: Kansas City Convention Center FAQs and prohibited items.

For Exhibitors and Event Planners

The convention center has separate operating rules for exhibitors and event organizers. A public visitor ticket does not authorize service-dock access, exhibit installation or deliveries.

  • Booth space: Obtain your hall and booth number from the organizer’s floor plan.
  • Freight: Use the show service kit for approved freight handling, loading locations and delivery windows.
  • Power and internet: Confirm provider, order deadlines and applicable service charges.
  • Food sampling: Catering and sampling restrictions require organizer and facility approval where applicable.
  • Labor: Follow current venue labor rules and your show contractor’s requirements.
  • Meetings: Use the matching layouts for rooms 2100, 2200, 2500 or the Grand Ballroom.

If you need detailed operational information, including technical hall layouts and event-day services, our existing Kansas City Convention Center venue and exhibitor guide provides supporting planning details.
